Brothers Beer Under New Ownership

Brothers Beer

Brothers Beer, the craft beer brewery, with it’s spacious bar and brewing facility in Mt Eden, is under new ownership after facing the challenging currents of financial adversity.

In light of this, Brothers Beer has announced the sale of the business, as completed on June 14th, with ‘business as usual’ operations continuing at the Mt Eden Mothership.

The year 2023 presented Brothers Beer with economic struggles that prompted a period of voluntary administration, starting in August 2023. Despite its best efforts to turn things around, the company was unfortunately liquidated on May 24th 2024, by PwC, which was able to secure a sale of the business, continue operations of the bar and brewery throughout the process, and retain a number of the core team members.

The sale was not without its share of complexities, with the unfortunate redundancies of some staff members, and with Brothers Beer divesting from its last remaining satellite site, the Juke Joint bar and restaurant nestled in the Piha Surf Life Saving Club. During the administration period, Brothers Beer had previously navigated the difficult decision to part ways with City Works Depot, Onehunga, Orakei, Birkenhead, and Commercial Bay.

This new, streamlined version of Brothers Beer will allow the focus to be brought ‘back to base’ at Mt Eden. The new owners have exciting plans for the former Leather Factory, with additions to the bar and restaurant, including a new and improved kid's play area, a facelift for the cosy couches and cool bar leaners, and new games and activities. They are eager to continue offering an inclusive space for the community, where little ones and furry friends are welcome, and to continue serving up delicious craft beer and authentic American BBQ that has defined Brothers Beer & Juke Joint for over a decade.

In the brewery, Dylan Adams, who joined the team late last year as Brewery Manager, has already been working his magic by updating some Brothers Beer classics and working on some new seasonal brews for the winter months. Brothers Beer will continue ongoing wholesale relationships with retail and on-premises customers and has plans to expand on its export market.

“We extend our gratitude to our community for its unwavering support during these trying times. We also express our deepest appreciation to our dedicated staff who have stood by us through these challenging times, and join the new business owners in looking towards a brighter future,” said Managing Director, Seven Long.

“Our message to the public is that after everything we have been through, we are still standing - we are still open, and the beer is the best it's ever been.”
