WINE SALES RISE IN IRELAND

Alcohol consumption in Ireland has reduced by up to 25 percent since 2001 as the government implemented measures to prevent unhealthy and dangerous levels of consumption. This decline may also be the result of a recent recession reducing disposable income within the nation; however, the decrease is noted to have begun even before this event. Despite alcohol consumption falling, wine sales in Ireland have increased by approximately 100,000 cases over the last year. With around 28 percent of the market, wine is the Irish market’s second largest alcoholic beverage, second to beer, accounting for approximately 44.8 percent of the market share.
