Drake’s Pick 6ix restaurant in downtown Toronto has shut unexpectedly after the restaurant failed to pay rent.
The upscale sports bar was closed after the owner of the building chose to terminate the restaurant’s lease. Despite the high-profile owner, Drake, a rap superstar, the restaurant has failed to garner a proper following and has long been troubled. The general consensus online is that the restaurant is overpriced, and the service is not good enough.
The owner of the building said that The Pick 6ix owed over NZ$75,000 in unpaid rent. However, operations manager of Pick 6ix, Jeff Darby has said that they have always paid rent on time and that despite the restaurant being plagued with building issues, they have not slowed or missed rent payments.
This is the second chain of Drake’s that has gone under—last year his restaurant Frings closed without reason.
