Now in Nelson, this Kiwi granola company focuses on sustainably producing Yum fresh each day. They create their own recipes using Yum to not only make people love their breakfasts a little more, but fuel their days with real food sustenance.

What is your company background, how did you start the business?

I started Yum while I was working as a chef at a lodge in Wanaka and couldn't find any breakfast options that didn't taste like sugar covered cardboard! So, I did what I knew how to do as a chef and gathered the best organically grown ingredients I could get my hands on, focusing the recipes around New Zealand's own beautifully grown produce.

The result was Yum, a range of authentic, artisan granolas that immediately sold out at the local market, and quickly began spreading into supermarkets across the country.

What is the current product range and variants and how do these products stand out in the market?

Yum stands out in the market for its quality and for sustainably producing authentic, grain-free, gluten-free granola by hand in small batches in Nelson. It is an ethical, sustainable business that takes pride in it’s high quality, healthy products. Yum is good for you and our planet. Yum is the only brand using organic ingredients in the premium breakfast category

Yum uses more New Zealand grown ingredients and celebrates its local, New Zealand grown suppliers. Yum is fresh, batch made daily (freshness noted in consumer reviews). Yum is an ethical, sustainable business. Yum is a delicious, fresh product that’s good for you.

Current product range includes a retail line of 350g kraft packages

Bulk range of 800g-1kg includes all of the above flavours (except the Superseed Clusters), Mighty Fig Granola, and the soon to be released No.8, New Zealand's first 100% grown granola to support local farmers and producers the best way we know how.

What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?

Yum continues to expand in amazing ways with new products, and a strong focus with its sustainable food production of its artisan products, especially into the hospitality sector in 1kg, 4kg and 8 kg sizes. The feedback from high-end hotels, lodges, and cafes, has been phenomenal.

Where are your products currently available to buy, and are you looking at or wanting to expand your availability?

Yum is currently in select New Worlds, Pak’nSave, Fresh Choice, Supervalues, and Four Squares across the country. We are also in independent stores including Farro Fresh, Huckleberrys, Moore Wilsons, and new refilleries popping up around the country. On the bulk/wholesale side of things, Bidfood and Service Foods Auckland and Christchurch offer Yum now as a premium breakfast option as well. We especially want to expand Yum into schools, hospitals, and other facilities where high quality nutrition is a focus.
