Westward Whisky Debut New Release

Westward Whiskey

Westward Whiskey, the pinnacle of American Whiskey and The Whisky List, has announced its forthcoming release, Westward Whiskey Single Barrel Selection Oloroso Sherry Cask. This sherry cask-finished whiskey bottling was hand-selected by The Whisky List, Australia's largest online whisky retailer, and will be available exclusively at The Whisky Show and The American Whisky Show in Australia.

Unanimously chosen in a blind tasting by The Whisky List's Tasting Panel of industry experts, Westward Whiskey Single Barrel Selection Oloroso Sherry Cask #22-4is made from scratch at the Westward Whiskey Distillery in the heart of the American Northwest, where their hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters are the ideal environment to raise a world-class whiskey. It began as all Westward's whiskeys do - as artisanal American Ale, brewed using locally sourced two-row barley, ale yeast and a slow, low-temperature fermentation process before it was distilled twice in custom low-reflux post stills designed to create a robust and flavorful spirit.

Westward Whiskey Single Barrel Selection Oloroso Sherry Cask enjoyed a primary maturation in heavily toasted and lightly charred new American Oak barrels before a secondary maturation in an Oloroso Sherry cask that previously held Palomino grapes and was sourced from a revered fourth-generation producer in the Jerez-Xérès-Sherry region. Bottled at 110 proof (55 percent ABV) without additives or colouring, this non-chill filtered whiskey will cost $199. And with just 332 bottles available, it is expected to sell out at The Whisky Show.

Westward is inspired by its home in Oregon and by the distinctive culture, climate, and natural ingredients of the American Northwest. Westward's family of whiskeys have earned high global praise, including Double Gold or Gold medals for all flagship whiskeys from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and the distinction as the number-five whiskey in the world from Whisky Advocate (2022). Westward Whiskey Single Barrel Selection Oloroso Sherry Cask #22-4 will be revealed at The American Whiskey Show in Melbourne on April 13. Held at the Fitzroy Town Hall, the inaugural event in Melbourne marks Australia's largest festival celebrating Bourbon, Rye, American Single Malts, and Canadian Whiskeys.

"We've been big fans of Westward for several years now. This is the second single cask we've selected from their distillery, and we are incredibly excited to be one of the first in the world to bottle an exclusive single barrel of Oloroso Sherry cask from Westward," Oliver Maruda of the Whisky List said.

"Aussies love a big, sherry monster, so we know this one will be an instant hit with The Whisky Show crowd. On the first sip, you're instantly welcomed by a face full of candied cherries and waves of papaya and peaches. The finish has significant legs thanks to the glorious ABV of 55 percent, waves of dark chocolate and the subtle sweetness of Oloroso Sherry. This is the peak American Single Malt Whiskey. Absolutely delicious."

Miles Munroe, Master Blender, Westward Whiskey, said it was an honour to work alongside the team at The Whisky List again to introduce this special and highly limited bottling.

"This Oloroso cask influence showcases our commitment to sourcing the finest possible ingredients from unmatched producers around the world while leaning into the incredible aging environment here in our home in the American Northwest. I picked these Oloroso casks because I knew exactly which sherry producer they were coming from, and the quality did not disappoint. We rarely release any sherried single malt, in fact this is only the second time in our history so don't miss this chance."
