AUSTRALIA | QSR Giant Wendy's has opened its first-ever store in Australia, choosing Surfer's Paradise as the ideal location to set-up-shop.
Global fast-food chain Wendy’s has officially opened its first store in Australia.
Known for its old-fashioned style of hamburgers and square patties, Wendy’s first restaurant opened its doors in Surfer’s Paradise on the Gold Coast. The chain said this would be the first of many restaurants yet to come.
By 2034, there are plans to open 200 Wendy’s restaurants across Australia, each expected to generate 30 to 40 jobs.
Abigail Pringle, Chief Development Officer of The Wendy's Company, said Australia was a strategic market for long-term growth for Wendy's.
“Flynn Restaurant Group has incredible experience in the restaurant space, and we are thrilled to expand our relationship with them. They have a strong leadership team, great culture, vast industry knowledge, success with our brand in the U.S., and we are confident that Flynn Restaurant Group is the right partner to unlock growth for Wendy's in Australia."
Following the positive reaction from Sydneysiders to a one-day pop-up event back in 2021, there had been overwhelming interest in launching the brand Down Under, and it was clear fans were ready for it to arrive in Australia.
"We couldn't be more excited about expanding our partnership with Wendy's. It is a tremendous brand with significant untapped potential outside of the U.S. and we think it is an especially great fit for Australia, given the savvy nature of the Australian consumer,” said Ron Bellamy, Chief Operating Officer at The Flynn Group.
“We look forward to expanding the brand in the market and in the process, redefining what Australians should expect from QSR."
Flynn Restaurant Group is the largest restaurant franchise operator in the world and will serve as the exclusive master franchisee in Australia.
Wendy’s franchises in New Zealand were bought by the Flynn Group in 2024, having been set up by Danny and Dianne Lendich in 1988.
