THE GREEN ARCHES

McDonald’s has announced plans to buy solar and wind energy to power 2500 of its restaurants. The fast-food giant said that it is investing in two startup companies that are looking at ways to generate renewable energy—so much that it is the equivalent of taking 140,000 cars off the road for a year.

“These renewable energy commitments will generate green energy equivalent to over 2500 McDonald’s restaurants-worth of electricity, one more example of how we are using our scale for good,” said Francesca DeBiase, chief supply chain and sustainability officer.

Last year, McDonald’s had made ambitious plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 36 percent by 2030, compared to greenhouse gas figures from 2015.
