The Australian National party are looking to lobby the Federal Government to get terms like ‘meat’ and milk’ banned from plant-based products. The movement is said to be an effort to lead reform and would see the eradication of words with animal products banned from items that are free-from in some way.
This is an ongoing debate around the world, with some countries already having bans in place. Canada, for instance, prohibits dairy alternatives from being labelled as milk. Other industries are also onboard, with the both the Australian National Farmers Federation pushing for clarity on milk and meat-related products, and the New Zealand Federated Farmers, who will take note of the happenings overseas and reevaluate their push.
