Sushi Sushi coming to New Zealand

Sushi Sushi, an Australian food market business, has revealed that it will open its first New Zealand store in May. This move comes as a part of their expansion following their acquisition by Odyssey Private Equity. In addition to the New Zealand store, the development is said to include openings in New South Wales later this year.

Thirty stores are planned for New Zealand, the first one coming to the Botany Town Centre in Auckland. The original New Zealand store will be 85 square metres and will be home to a create-your-own-hand-roll station.

Scott Meneilly, chief executive of Sushi Sushi, said that his team is excited to be working with Odyssey and the challenges involved with bringing the store to New Zealand. “When you take a brand overseas, you’re relaunching it, and you need to get the nuances right within those regions,” said Meneilly. “What worked in Australia won’t necessarily work overseas, you have to tailor it. It takes an incredible amount of focus and resources to get it right.”

Paul Readdy, Odyssey partner, said that Odyssey was excited to be working with the Sushi Sushi management team and that working together will bring success to both companies.
