Shane Edmond Appointed Chairman

Shane Edmond

Leading West Coast spirits distillery Reefton Distilling Co. has announced the appointment of their new Chair, Shane Edmond.

Edmond has more than 30 years’ experience in the financial markets sector, working both in the UK  and New Zealand.  He joined leading New Zealand wealth management company Forsyth Barr in April 2002, having previously worked in both private client and institutional broking roles for 15 years, including JBWere.

His career at Forsyth Barr spanned over 20 years and saw him hold many senior roles, including Head of Retail Broking and Head of Wealth Management. Edmond also served as an Executive Director for the Forsyth Barr Group from 2008 to December 2023. Shane recently retired from Forsyth Barr.

In 2009, Shane Edmond became an inaugural member of the Financial Markets Authority’s Code Committee, he served on the committee for eight years prior to his appointment to the Financial Advice Code Working Group by the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. The Financial Advice Code Working Group was set up in 2017 to develop the new code of conduct for financial advice, setting standards of competence, conduct and client-care for the whole financial advice industry - the code came into force on 15 March 2021.

Edmond currently holds the position of Company Director on a number of Boards and has also previously served as an Executive Director on the Board of the Forsyth Barr Group, and in the position of Deputy Chairperson of the NZ Markets Disciplinary Tribunal.  This experience sees him well placed to take up the appointment as Chair at Reefton Distilling Co.

“We are very pleased to announce Shane’s appointment as our Chair, he brings a wealth of governance experience, depth of commercial insight and relationships that will help support the business as we prepare for our next stage of growth,” said Patsy Bass, Reefton Distilling Co. Chief Executive.

Shane Edmond has been a supporter of Reefton Distilling Co. from the very early concepts of the distillery, he took a stake in our success as a foundation shareholder early in 2018 and latterly joined the Board as an Independent Director in March 2023.  He undertakes the role of Chair with professionalism, humility and good humour and we look forward to continuing the relationship in this formal capacity.”
