With selfie-culture growing in popularity over the years, a café in Delhi has taken this craze a step further. At Selfie Swag Café customers can order a cup of coffee or a smoothie with their selfie printed on top of the beverage. The selfie is edible and is made using a coffee printer whereby the image is printed onto a thick layer of cream added to the top of the drink.
Customers WhatsApp the café their selfie, or any picture they want to be printed on their beverage which is then sent to the printing machine. An excellent idea for drawing in customers, the process of perfecting the system took a lot of work.
“It took a lot of drudgery as I have tried around 2000 drinks in the last month. So we have done a lot of R&D for five to six months before coming up with the concept. The inks which we are using with our drinks are food colour based and the amount we are putting in our drinks is one-hundredth of the amount one puts in coffee. It’s all water-based,” said the owner of Selfie Swag Café, Anit Dang.
The café’s aesthetic, taste and presentation are always maintained at a high level to sure the café’s viability. With the popularity of this novelty café taking off, it has plans to expand to open another store in another city.
