Restaurant Association Gauging Feedback on Fair Pay Agreement

At the end of 2022, the Government introduced the Fair Pay Agreement (FPA) system, aimed at bringing together unions and employer associations, such as the Restaurant Association of New Zealand, to bargain for minimum employment terms for all covered employees in an industry or occupation.

An application to initiate FPA bargaining for the hospitality industry has been lodged by the Union and is currently being assessed by MBIE. If approved, bargaining on what will be included in an industry FPA could get underway by the third quarter of 2023.

The Restaurant Association of New Zealand is preparing to represent all of the industry's employers, including members and non-members, through this process. The Restaurant Association is gauging feedback from the whole industry on some of the things that may be put forward by the Union.

“We want to reassure you that you do not need to make any changes, or preparations at this stage - this is some of our preliminary information gathering. We are committed to keeping you up to date on any progress and will stay in touch,” said Marisa Bidois, Chief Executive of the Restaurant Association of New Zealand.
