Popeyes

New Zealand's very first Popeyes has announced it will be finally opening its doors on Monday 29th April in Takanini, Auckland. After months of speculation and excitement swirling the internet, Kiwis will now get the chance to try the iconic fried chicken restaurant for themselves.

Allegedly dubbed the best-fried chicken in the world by the likes of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Kiwis no longer have to travel overseas to get their fried fix. With all the iconic menu items including the Chicken Sandwich, Cajun gravy & mash, Buttermilk tenders and signature  Louisiana Chicken, about to be readily available in New Zealand, Popeyes is no doubt going to be a fan favourite for everyone.

From 10 am on Monday 29th April, Popeyes will be open to the public and ready for service. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Popeyes launch day without festivities. The fun kicks off in the morning, with the first bucket of fried chicken ready to be served to the person who is lucky enough to be at the front of the queue. The first 50 people in line can expect to receive special prizes including limited-edition merchandise such as ‘Day one’ t-shirts and vouchers for meal items. For those who can’t be the first 50, there will also be a ‘Spin  & Win’ as well as an array of surprise and delight activities that will be sure to get people pumped for Popeyes

Guests can expect special menu items that will only be available for the opening week including the Popeyes Party Meal, which includes two pieces of signature chicken, regular mash and Cajun gravy, regular Cajun fries and a drink for $9.50, as well as a Spicy Wings Snack including two spicy wings and a small fries for $4.90.

Located in the heart of Takanini with a site spanning over 300 square metres, Popeyes is hard to miss, with its popping orange and teal hues brightening up the Takanini turf. With a two-lane drive-thru sporting ‘tap and go’ features, allowing guests to have their food in their hands faster than ever before. Inside the restaurant, self-service kiosks will allow for seamless service and efficient ordering.

“It has been a long time coming and a secret that has been hard to keep, but we’re so thrilled we can finally give the people of New Zealand what they want! It’s going to be an awesome day filled with spot prizes, epic music, surprise and delight moments, and of course, more fried chicken than you could imagine," said Sharn Phillips, head of marketing at Popeyes New Zealand.

Rafael Odorizzi, President of APAC at Restaurant Brands International said he was thrilled to launch the first Popeyes restaurant in New Zealand.

"Our Kiwi fans will love our iconic Louisiana flavours and together with our partners, we can’t wait to bring more restaurants to New Zealand. We are confident that this partnership coupled with the immense support from our guests will lead us to great success. This is just the beginning  with more from Popeyes on the way.”

Popeyes has large expansion plans that will see up to ten Popeyes restaurants appear around the country by the end of 2024.
