Premium free range egg company Otaika Valley is a little family run business near Whangarei, New Zealand. William Sandle chatted with the team about producing what they believe to be the highest quality free range eggs with a keen focus on achieving high levels of animal welfare.
What is your company background, how did you start the business?
Otaika Valley is a family owned free range egg farm which started south of Whangarei in Otaika Valley.
What are the current product range and variants and how do these products stand out in the market?
Otaika Valley has a full product range from mixed grade to sized, and six, 10, 12 and 20 packs. Otaika Valley is keenly focused on achieving high levels of animal welfare. Our hens are free to roam and partake in their daily activities such as scratching, perching, dust bathing, foraging and venturing into the grassed areas. We have NO added antibiotics or hormones.
Has there been any recent company news?
The company has recently been working with Countdown and has launched two products into 90 Countdown stores in the North Island.
What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?
Otaika Valley has bought a new farm and is continuing to expand the farm situated in Kaharoa near Rotorua, which boasts 130 acres of lush ex-dairy pastures. We chose this location strategically as it’s centrally located and our future goal is to service potential customers in the central and lower North Island regions.
Where are your products currently available to buy, and are you looking at or wanting to expand your availability? If so, where would you like to see the product situated?
Otaika Valley Free Range Eggs are sold and distributed North Island wide into leading supermarkets including Foodstuff stores, Countdown stores, My Food Bag, Nosh and Farro Fresh.
