Nic Watt

Renowned hospitality operator Nic Watt will officially open in the retail and dining precinct at Commercial Bay.

Nic Watt is the highly regarded chef and restaurateur behind MASU, Shoku, and INCA.

Complementing the already impressive collection of eateries and award-winning chefs at Commercial Bay, Nic will be opening ‘CānTīng by Nic Watt’.

CānTīng is a smart, casual, upmarket, modern Chinese restaurant and bar. Presented by Nic Watt, CānTīng seamlessly blends the richness of an Asian dining experience with a harmonious fusion of tradition and innovation, immersing you in a culinary journey where every dish is a standalone hero.

The menu will be broadly modern Chinese, while also traversing traditional boundaries to transport the tastebuds through the diverse culinary landscapes of Asia.

The focal point of the kitchen is the Duck Oven, where CānTīng bbq duck will soon become a must order for every table. Beautifully hand-crafted dim sum will show case the best of modern Chinese dining. King Crab leg and fresh cut sashimi selections will be amongst the menu offerings, along with the broader Asian favourites of our version of king prawn and sesame toast.

Sunday will feature the CānTīng signature Yum Cha offering from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This offering showcases a contemporary approach to the well-known and much-loved Yum Cha experience.

“We’re really excited to welcome Nic Watt’s new dining concept to our world-class dining precinct at Commercial Bay. We’re proud of the dining offer we have curated alongside all our partner chefs and the calibre and expertise of Nic Watt further cements Commercial Bay as the new home of dining in the city,” said Andrew Trounson, Centre Manager of Commercial Bay.

This follows the recent opening of Advieh by executive chef Gareth Stewart as part of the InterContinental Auckland Hotel, the Queens Rooftop Bar and Wine Shop which sits above the precinct, as well as Kome, the Japanese restaurant and sake bar in the One Queen Dining laneway.

“I am really excited to join the Commercial Bay precinct and be amongst the stellar lineup of current chefs and operators within this vibrant food and beverage community," said Watt.

"I am looking forward to showcasing my hospitality style with CānTīng. To be able to bring a broadly modern Chinese concept to the Auckland market, with the flavour, texture and culinary journey in abundance across this landscape. I look forward to welcoming you all to CānTīng by Nic Watt in the very near future.”

CānTīng by Nic Watt will be located on Level 1 at Commercial Bay, featuring waterfront views and will be opening before the end of the year.
