New Nelson Live Lounge Sessions

Nelson Centre of Musical Arts, formerly Nelson School of Music, has opened its Atrium Bar on Fridays during April and May for its free Live Lounge events.

Encouraging Nelsonians to relax in one of Nelson's heritage buildings and venues, the aim is to showcase a diverse range of local musicians. The bar area has been a new development at NCMA since its reopening in mid-2018, after five years of earthquake strengthening work, new building additions and architectural design.

"It's been a really diverse bunch - people coming in that had commented they hadn't been in the building since before the building closed for earthquake strengthening," commented NCMA venues manager Kim McCormack, adding that word of mouth had seen a growing turnout each week with people either making a specific visit or making use of the space to “linger” prior to their show/concert starting.

The public is encouraged to come through and have a look at the changes that have taken place from the pre-earthquake building to the new venue which has been architecturally designed to honour the heritage features of the old building.
