Meet the Distiller: Grey Lynn Gin

Grey Lynn gin

Soon to be husband-and-wife team, Jack and Hannah were inspired by New Zealand’s largest city, creating a gin brand that felt modern and authentically city-based for the urban gin enthusiast.

Their approach is simple: bold and uncomplicated gin.

As a premium gin at an accessible price, Grey Lynn gin is made with limited botanicals for instilled flavours that pack a real punch. Using only four to five botanicals in comparison with other brands’ standard 10 to 20, Grey Lynn Gin have been successful in developing and maintaining bold flavour profiles.

Named after their favourite Auckland suburb, the gin promotes the inner city lifestyle and local gems found around the city. The branding features Auckland's iconic Sky Tower on bright orange and purple bottles.

Grey Lynn Gin was born as a result of Covid. Jack and Hannah were searching for a bold, yet simple go-to gin and the March 2020 lockdown presented the opportunity to begin experimental distilling in the couple’s Grey Lynn garage.

“We suddenly had all this time on our hands, and it allowed us to start distilling and refine our unique taste,” said co-founder Jack McNally.

Later that year, Grey Lynn Gin’s Signature Citrus gin was launched in Grey Lynn’s liquor stores to immediate success, soon rolling out to over 40 Auckland stockists. The successful launch saw development of a second Grey Lynn Gin flavour -Parma Violet, a floral gin with a sweet finish and lasting lavender aroma.

Outgrowing their humble Grey Lynn garage beginnings, Jack and Hannah’s distilling has scaled up significantly to service their growing list of stockists but the gin proudly remains Auckland city-distilled.

Jack and Hannah find that a great spirit is easy to understand with bold flavours and a smooth taste. In the future, the team hope to continue expanding into new markets and release an RTD version of their citrus gin.
