Meet The Chef | Yuan Yuan, Long Chim

In 2009, Yuan Yuan embarked on a culinary journey that brought him from China to Australia, where he became an essential member of the opening team of Long Chim Melbourne due to his expertise in creating a remarkable dining experience.

With a culinary background deeply rooted in Asian flavours and techniques, he honed his skills at places such as Red Spice Road and Hawker Hall, which allowed him to appreciate the art of cooking even more.

“My culinary approach celebrates the accessibility and authenticity of street food while elevating it to a refined dining experience. I believe great food should be a feast for the taste buds and a sensory exploration, immersing guests in a world of bold flavours, textures, and aromas,” said Yuan.

“My cooking is a culinary bridge that connects the vibrancy of Thai street food with the comfort and ambience of a restaurant, offering a unique and unforgettable gastronomic journey.”

In today’s age, Yuan believes that a crucial aspect that requires more attention is the meticulous training and development of new culinary talents. Ensuring aspiring cooks have comprehensive knowledge and a strong foundation in common sense within the food industry will be pivotal for its growth and success.

He advises those just beginning their hospitality journey to embrace the basics, as the journey of every slice, dice, and sauté is a step toward becoming a skilled cook and, eventually, a maestro of the culinary world.

“Just as a strong foundation is the bedrock of a towering structure, mastering the fundamentals is the cornerstone of becoming an exceptional cook and, ultimately, a skilled chef.”

Yuan wishes to introduce a broader range of Asian cuisine to Australia to enrich the culinary landscape and offer a delightful tapestry of flavours and experiences. The infusion of diverse Asian dishes would not only tantalise taste buds but also celebrate the cultural diversity that defines Australia.
