Happy Hour | Tequila Sunrise

Vibrant in colour and packed with punch, a Tequila Sunrise is an instantly recognisable cocktail on any bar menu.

The ombre of red to yellow is surprisingly easy to make, and something that guests will love, especially when everything is so dull outside during winter, a sunrise is exactly what they are after.

Served in a highball glass and garnished with fruit, the Tequila Sunrise is believed to have been invented sometime during the 1930s, 1940s, or 1950s. Bartenders Bobby Lazoff and Billy Rice have been credited with crafting the Tequila Sunrise into how it is known today.

By adding orange juice with grenadine with tequila, the magical captivation of the changing colours has been a showstopper at the bar for generations. To achieve the special layered colour effect, it is next to leave the beverage unmixed.

Both vodka and rum can also be used in the drink, and flavours such as lemon, lime, and grapefruit all help add to the tropical flavour. The signature way to garnish the drink is to present it with a cherry or slice of orange, or both.
