Grey Lynn Firehouse Reinvented

Pairing the drinking and dining cultures of the UK and Australia with a historic local landmark will result in the Grey Lynn Firehouse.

One of Auckland’s latest dining destinations, the Grey Lynn Firehouse, was the brainchild of acclaimed hospitality duo Luke Jones and Dave Lincoln, the founders of Honest, Norma Taps and Roundhouse Drinks Dept.

Located in the historic, two-storey Grey Lynn fire station, the new pub has been designed as a relaxed and welcoming space to meet, eat and drink.

The menu matches the refined dining environment, led by Chef Kererū Wilson, featuring organic and seasonal produce, and dishes inspired by local influences and the precision of thoughtful cooking.

Downstairs, the pub offers punters a selection of 10 taps pouring lagers, pilsners, Guinness, and various local and international brews. Cocktails are also available on tap, as well as a carefully curated wine list. The pub’s menu celebrates customer favourites, like chicken parma, fish and chips, and share plates for group gatherings. On Sundays, customers can also choose a reimagined take on the Sunday Roast.

The project has been described as a labour of love, spearheaded by the design team at Studio Tatami, who are behind many of Auckland’s popular restaurants and bars. Every detail of the space has honoured the building’s history, from restored woodwork to carefully considered finishes in cream, chocolate and burgundy.

Hand-sanded original floors, rich timber, and deep maroon ceilings set the tone for a space that feels approachable and unpretentious, complete with two fireplaces, two bars, and a rooftop deck for lingering long into the evening.

The Grey Lynn Firehouse is unique for its vast outdoor space. Aside from the suntrap roof terrace, the ‘island’ of land the building is situated on is fully licensed, allowing customers to move around the building as they please.
