Google expands restaurant reservation service

Google has announced the expansion of restaurant reservation service Duplex to 43 states in the USA, and is now available on iPhone and Android.

Using AI technology, the new Google Duplex assistant will place a phone call to the restaurant, make a booking with an employee and send the user a confirmation that the reservation was successful. Originally only available on Google’s own Pixel smartphone in Atlanta, New York, Phoenix, and the San Francisco Bay Area, the service has now gone country-wide.

After confirming the details with the phone user, the AI will the restaurant. It identifies itself as a Google programme and lets the restaurant know the call is being recorded before engaging in conversation and recording the call.
