The Grant Burge Vineyard Cameron Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is a GIWC top 20 award-winning wine from the Barossa Valley in South Australia.
Grant Burge Wines was established by Grant Burge himself, a fifth-generation Barossa winegrower and winemaker. Burge can be credited for the high-class winery seen today, however, the family winemaking history can be traced as far back as 1855.
First-generation family member, John Burge immigrated to Barossa in1855 from Hilcot, England, with his wife Eliza and their two sons. He worked as a winemaker at Hillside Vineyards while passing on his love for the trade to his son Meshach. Meshach made his first wine in 1865 and passed his love for wine to his first of eight children, Percival. Percival established the Wilsford Winery near Lyndoch in 1928 and went on to have two sons, Noel and Colin. Colin and his wife Nancy had one son - Grant Burge.
Now owned by the Accolade Wine’s family of brands, the Grant Burge Winery continues to flourish and the vineyard is managed by Rodney Birchmore. Birchmore runs on the philosophy that the right soil and variety combination with low-to-moderate yields will produce premium quality fruit and therefore exceptional wines.
Located just 80 kilometres north of South Australia’s capital city Adelaide, The Barossa region is recognised for its diverse terrain, altitude levels and the Mediterranean climate.
The most exciting thing about the Cameron Vale Cabernet Sauvignon is its deep red colour that has purple hues. It is unique, robust, and vibrant, a style of wine known to Barossa. It has lively aromas of dark chocolate, blackberry, vanilla and cedar. The palate is rich with black and red berry fruit and has hints of vanilla that accompanies the ripe and firm tannins.
The wine is best paired with red meats, barbecued vegetables or a hearty beef Bourgogne. It can be shelved for around eight years and is suited to the more seasoned wine drinker or someone with an explorative palate.
