Champion Sauv for Yealands Estate

New Zealand’s newest national wine show, the National Wine Awards of Aotearoa, held their Awards of Excellence at Auckland’s Hilton Hotel on Sunday, with Yealands Estate Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2022 winning Champion Sauvignon Blanc.

Yealands Chief Winemaker Natalie Christensen was there to receive the award and celebrate alongside the other Champion winners.

“We’re super excited to win this trophy for our Single Vineyard Sauvignon. The 2022 harvest was especially stunning in the Awatere Valley, with our Seaview Vineyard producing Sauvignon Blanc with intense aromatics, a distinct minerality and power and presence on the palate. Seaview Vineyard is such an incredible place and we’re really proud of our home - the team loves working with the fruit that we get from this special site,” expressed Christensen.

Chair of Judges Jane Cooper described the Champion Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc as, “Intense greens and bright herb freshness that clearly express the best of the Awatere. Wonderful concentration of flavour and excellent acid line that carries a juicy moreishness. A true classic.”

Emerging from the Royal Easter Show, this new national wine award show received over 800 entries, with judging held over three days at Kumeu Showgrounds in late September.

Yealands Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2022 was awarded a Gold medal, with Yealands Reserve Chardonnay 2021, Yealands Estate Single Vineyard PGR 2021, Yealands Rosé 2022 and Yealands Estate Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021 all awarded Silver medals.
