World Coffee Championship Kicks Off

It’s been an amazing year so far for the global coffee industry, with lots of live events happening as the world bounces back and caffeinates itself. The Team at Golden Bean successfully completed two great Golden Bean events in 2023.

The first was held in September in Columbus Ohio, USA, and the second was the Australasia competition, held at Diamond Beach NSW in November. There were many new faces becoming part of the Golden Bean family, with organisers receiving over two thousand entries from more than five hundred global coffee companies. Golden Bean is the largest Coffee Roasting Competition in the world, and has strived to bring the skill of roasters to the foreground of the coffee business.

The World Series Golden Bean Competition is only one week away, and will take place in the world coffee capital of Melbourne, Australia.  On 26th & 27th February 2024, the competition will be held at the historic Batman’s Hill Hotel on Collins Street, Melbourne CBD. The competition is open to all past Silver and Gold Medalists. Entrants enter three coffees of their choice and roast profile in Espresso, Milk and Filter.  The event will have three sections of the competition again with Overall Champion, and Overall Champions for Small Chain/Franchise and Large Chain/Franchise.

This year’s competition will be showcasing the world coffee capital “Melbourne”.

Attending roasters/delegates will have the opportunity to be part of some fun networking and educational experiences, including visiting iconic cafes and coffee businesses. There will be nightly functions and an awards ceremony at Axil Coffee in Richmond on the 28th of February.

"Let’s see who becomes the World’s Best Coffee Roaster and if the title will stay in Australia. Last year’s world series winner, Raihaan Esat from The Coffee Commune in Brisbane, is eager to hold onto the trophy again this year. We are all very excited to taste the best specialty coffee in the world - an industry that is worth over 300 billion dollars annually," said Sean Edwards, Managing Director of Golden Bean.
