Will this Concept Work in a COVID Conscious World?

As part of an international development agreement, American buffet-style pizza restaurant Pizza Inn is set to build 10 new eateries in New Zealand.

The company has joined forces with Ginny Singh who is the director of GJ Restaurants and the principal master licensee and development partner of Pizza Inn in the country.

Brandon Solano, president and CEO of Rave Restaurant Group, Pizza Inn’s parent, said all franchisees share a common dedication to creating a high-quality product and dining experience.

“Our new fiscal year is off to a great start with a net increase of two Pizza Inn restaurants in the US and our opportunity to be a leading pizza brand in New Zealand,” he said.

The company also operates in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Palestine and Honduras.

Singh said now is a “great time” to bring an American brand to New Zealand as hospitality is recovering.

This format, of course, is not new to Kiwis. It is reminiscent of the original and much loved red-roofed Pizza Huts, the last of which closed in New Zealand in 2016.

But how will people feel about a buffet setting in our new COVID conscious world?

The first store will open in Auckland later this year, so time will tell.
