Despite the country going through lockdown 2.0, Visa Wellington On a Plate has announced its festival programme with more than 120 events set to take place during October.
The festival, normally held in August, was already postponed due to COVID-19. It will host Dine Wellington, from October 1 to 11, Burger Wellington, from October 12 to 31, and Cocktail Wellington and Festival Events running all month long. More than 240 businesses are taking part.
“Our emphasis in 2020 is on community collaboration, togetherness and celebrating the immense depth of culinary talent within the Wellington region,” said Festival director Sarah Meikle, adding that the team was committed to supporting the local hospitality industry and that social distancing had made people appreciate the importance of togetherness.
“It really gave people an appreciation for that ‘third place’: those cafes, restaurants and bars that are important to everyday lives, and often the place we connect with others, especially in culinary cities like Wellington.”
