Waikato’s First Christmas Market Arisen out of COVID

Hamilton’s giant Christmas tree won’t be the only thing lighting up the region this festive season.

Over 100 local vendors will transform Claudelands into a festive wonderland for what is being touted as Waikato’s first Christmas Market.

The market will feature live music, food stalls, horse and cart rides, and of course a visit from the big man himself, Santa.

“We need this,” commented market organiser, Tash McGowan. “We want to get together as a community for Christmas and celebrate what’s unique to us.”

McGowan said she hoped the merriment would provide opportunities for those hit hard by COVID-19, giving Waikato artisans and foodies a time and place to shine.

Profits from ticket sales will go towards covering venue costs and supporting the Hamilton-based charity Clothe Our Kids Waikato.
