Rick Stein Uncovers Gems of Aussie Cuisine

Acclaimed chef Rick Stein has explored the best of NSW’s food offering in a new television series, Rick Stein’s Australia.

At an event held at Australia House in London, Stein explored the inspiration behind the series, the evolution of Sydney and NSW's vibrant restaurant scene, and his and Kathy’s shared passion for the state’s exceptional local produce and multicultural food scene.

Described as a “revisiting of roots”, the six 60-minute episodes showcase travel exclusively across the state, meeting the characters and farmers behind some of Australia’s most loved foods, and linking Stein's history to NSW's future through food.

“Most people know me as a British chef, but I have been coming to Australia for over 60 years," said Stein.

"After my 5000 kilometre journey through NSW, I realised how much my love, appreciation and knowledge of food has changed over these years and I think it all kicked off with my early visit to NSW. It really is my home away from home.”

The program features NSW’s diversity, highlighting the state’s impressive geographical range, from the northern laidback surf culture of Byron Bay to the scenic beaches and coastal towns of the Sapphire Coast on the South, close to Stein’s restaurant in Mollymook, and extending into the vast Outback.

The series emphasises the evolving cuisine and the multicultural influence on Australian food, celebrating the talented chefs bringing their individual flavours, the unique local ingredients, and the rich traditions of First Nations cuisine. Personal connections are also central, reinforcing that Australia, and particularly NSW, is Rick’s “home away from home.”

Filmed over the course of three months, the series was produced by Southern Pictures and is expected to air on BBC One and iPlayer in 2026 and on SBS in Australia in April 2026.
