PUBLISHER CHARGED WITH FRAUD

Media WEBTHE former owner of the FMCG grocery magazine and the foodservice publication Hospitality has been charged under the Crimes Act by the Serious Fraud Office with offending involving $2.2m.

Victor John Clarke of the failed MediaWeb company used a forged document and obtained funds by deception, the SFO alleges. The SFO said he falsified financial statements, created fictitious entries in its accounting system and failed to disclose the company’s true financial position.

The company went into liquidation last year owing more than $2m with Clarke and his partner Toni Myers both adjudicated bankrupt later in 2014.
