Waipara Hills’ new Sauvignon Blanc, a classic product of the Awatere Valley, is no stranger to success. Despite having been out only for a few months, the vibrant and crisp wine has already received a silver medal at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards.
Waipara Hills winemaker, Simon McGeorge, gives credit to the geography of the Awatere Valley region in explaining the wine’s success.
“The deep gravel and silty loam topsoils attributed to the high weight and interest in this Sauvignon Blanc,” McGeorge said.
Warm and stable conditions in the Valley also created an even grape ripeness; giving the wine textured essences of melon, snow pea, and a touch of tropical fruit. McGeorge also notes characters of green apple and mineral acidity.
