Sipping an Old Mate Gin evokes the magic and wonder of New Zealand’s Coromandel Peninsula with its intriguing blend of flavours.
We’ve all got an old mate that we can rely on and who is never taken for granted. With this thought, Chris and Sharee Green decided to start Whitianga’s Old Mate Distillery, a boutique gin producer.
After being challenged at a beach party to make their gin and the subsequent Covid-19 pandemic, the Greens decided to utilise their free time and their existing ice business to expand into something they always loved, i.e. gin.
Their offerings are an authentic product of New Zealand’s nature, specifically the Coromandel, as the individual flavours are blended in pure local spring water. They are also further expanding their flavours to more citrus fruits, clover, pine, seaweed, and honey.
Old Mate Gin is currently available in three flavours; Signature Dry Gin, Out The Gate - Citrus Gin and Captain’s Table - Navy Strength Gin, all of which have been awarded at the Australian Gin Awards and the New Zealand Spirit Awards.
The brand will also release a 309 Kaffir Lime Gin next month.
