Meet The Barista | Kiyomi Takayama, The Beanstore by Ozone Coffee Roasters

Kiyomi Takayama never would have believed that he would be a cafe manager in New Zealand, especially fifteen years ago, when she was a secretary to bank executives in Japan.

Shortly after moving to New Zealand in 2010, Takayama began working for the Queen of Hospitality, Mrs. Fox. Being a barista felt like love at first sight to her, especially since she learned to use La Marzocco.

“I have been lucky enough to meet and be inspired by great leaders and workmates throughout my journey so far. Now, I am surrounded by super talented people who have believed in my abilities and supported and led me to where I am today,” said Takayama.

Today, she is the cafe manager of the New Plymouth-based cafe, The Beanstore from Ozone Coffee Roasters, which offers batch brews made with responsibly sourced specialty coffees worldwide. They serve excellent coffees roasted on-site with delicious and vibrant cabinet food in a friendly and positive atmosphere.

“Our coffee offerings for S/O SPRO, V60 and AEROPRESS change bimonthly. The list of coffee is carefully chosen and roasted to perfection by our team, and the recipes are made by our talented head barista.”

Takayama believes that all aspects of making a great coffee are crucial. However, a coffee made with love and joy always tastes better. It sounds cheesy, but it is true.
