Award-winning restaurant Palate is on the move, having found a new home at SkyCity Hamilton on Victoria Street.
With its instant street appeal, Owner and Head Chef Mat McLean hopes the new location will appeal to his regular customers, and to attract new guests to the restaurant.
“Dining out shouldn’t be reserved for special occasions. I want to show people the joy of food is an experience which needs to be enjoyed with more frequency,” said McLean.
Renovations are well underway at the new central location, which is set to open early in the new year, and McLean is excited to see the kitchen starting to take shape.
“Building from the ground up has enabled the team to add some great new additions to the kitchen – an open fire grill will add a new element to the menu and is a form of cooking I’m immensely passionate about.”
Palate is an a la carte restaurant, with a seasonal menu and superb wine list, highlighting the best local produce from the Greater Waikato Region.
“We’re delighted that a Hamilton-icon like Palate is joining the SkyCity precinct, and we look forward to seeing what Mat and his team will do with the space,” said SkyCity Hamilton General Manager, Michelle Baillie.
Palate adds an elevated dining option to the SkyCity Hamilton stable and will join Eat Burger, The Local Taphouse, and the recent new addition of Shanghai Restaurant.
SkyCity Hamilton has invested in several renovations over the past months, including a significant upgrade of Vue Bar within the casino, which has recently reopened as Amuse Bar & Kitchen.
“It’s important to offer customers new experiences and reasons to visit, and we are pleased to have been able to refurbish existing outlets as well as activate vacant spaces with new restaurant tenancies,” said Baillie.
Palate will remain independently owned and operated; however, it will benefit from SkyCity’s established infrastructure. Palate remains open in its existing location until 31 December, with a delicious menu on offer to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
