KIWI CHIPPIE UP FOR SALE AFTER OVER HALF A CENTURY

A Morrinsville fish & chip shop, where Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern once worked as a teen, is up for sale.

The Golden Kiwi Restaurant has served up fish and chips, along with a slice of classic Kiwi culinary life, for over 100 years. Before fast-food franchises and flash fit-outs there was Golden Kiwi, a sign in the restaurant announces: Morrinsville’s Original Dine-in Takeaway, Covich family since 1963.

If Golden Kiwi could be packaged you'd have the perfect ingredients for an old-school, owner-operated chippie. Situated on Morrinsville's main street, Golden Kiwi has served the town since 1913. Two generations of the Covich family have notched up 57 of its 107 years.

The business is now up for sale, owners Grant and Carol Covich are waiting for a buyer to come along, although right now this is on hold. Along with all the other eateries in New Zealand, Golden Kiwi is in lockdown. The Covich’s plan to get back in the game when restrictions are lifted, however, and will continue to trade until they sell.

This could be your chance to get your hands on a delicious piece of classic Kiwiana.
