International Young Sommelier winner announced

Australia has distinguished itself once again on the world stage at the prestigious International Young Sommeliers Competition in Mexico. Thibaut Broussier, from Dinner By Heston in Melbourne, clinched the Gold Medal ahead of entrants from 10 countries around the world.

Australia has been highly successful in the competition – during the past seven years Australia has been on the podium winning no less than one gold, two silver and four bronze medals, an achievement unmatched by the many international entrants like the United States, Germany, Great Britain.

Hosted by the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, the world’s oldest and largest food and wine society, the annual competition tests competitors on blind tasting ability, tableside wine service skills, and many areas of wine knowledge. The competitive program attracts the most promising young talent from Australia and around the world who bring fresh perspective and talent to their craft.

The Competition offers young sommeliers the opportunity to present their skills and “savoir faire” under highly competitive, intense and gruelling testing conditions and eventually to meet and learn from other international members of their profession.
