IKEA NZ Pushes Value With Weekly Family Food Deals

IKEA New Zealand is putting greater emphasis on value in its in-store food offer, launching two weekly promotions aimed at families managing tighter household budgets.

The new Feed the Family and Family Friday offers launched this week and are available exclusively to IKEA Family members, with the retailer using food pricing as another way to drive repeat visits and build engagement with its membership programme.

Feed the Family will run every Thursday from 11am, offering a family meal for $37. IKEA said this represented a saving of more than 37 percent compared with the $59 non-member price.

The offer covers meals and beverages for a family of four and will be available in-store from 3 September until 29 October.

IKEA has also brought back its Friday food promotion under the Family Friday banner, with simplified pricing across a range of its Swedish food offer.

Breakfast options start from $6 for IKEA Family members, while selected main meals are priced at $6 compared with a $14 non-member price. A four-pack of cinnamon buns is also available for $6, compared with $10 for non-members.

Family Friday will run every Friday, with breakfast available from store opening and other offers available during the day.

Tim Prevade, Country Food Manager, IKEA Australia and New Zealand, said food remained an important part of the wider IKEA customer experience.

“Food has always been a big part of the IKEA experience, and we’ve seen just how much Aussies love our offers and the hype we saw on social media over the past few years made that really clear,” Prevade said.

“We’re excited to bring these deals back, now even better, so more families can enjoy great food at genuinely affordable prices, at a time when cost of living can mean a meal out together is more challenging.”

Prevade said the offers were intended to give families an affordable option whether visiting for a Friday treat or a mid-week meal.

For IKEA, the promotions also continue the role food plays beyond the restaurant itself. Sharp member pricing gives customers another reason to visit stores regularly, while linking the offer to IKEA Family strengthens the relationship between food, store traffic and the retailer’s wider loyalty strategy.

The company said Family Friday builds on the response to its previous Happy Days promotion, with the new weekly offers forming part of its ongoing focus on affordability for New Zealand customers.
