To celebrate 20 years of operating, Hallertau has brought back some of its most popular brews to mark the occasion.
Back in 2005, Hayley and Steve Plowman opened a small but mighty brewery in Riverhead, North West Auckland. They were one of the first to brew beer on-site and pour it fresh into a pint glass for punters. Since then, Hallertau has grown into a hospitality institution with two legendary beer gardens, Riverhead and Clevedon, a line-up of numbered beers with a cult following, and a reputation for looking after their community like they’re family.
Fast forward 20 years, and they’re still fizzing. Same warm welcome, same fresh pints, same wood-fired pizzas and the slow-cooked beef croquettes that would spark outrage if ever removed from the menu. Customers know them for the much-loved playground for the kids, a solid live entertainment line-up for the grown-ups, and menus packed with produce grown on site or by their neighbours.
Hallertau has always done things its way, whether it’s being one of the first in the country to serve wine on tap, cook over open fire in a beer garden, or head brewer Steve Plowman creating seasonal beers using feijoas, tangelos, strawberries and grapefruit picked from local gardens. From five original brews to a line-up of ten beloved numbered beers plus ever-changing seasonal batches, Hallertau’s beers have always been consistently fresh and tasty.
To mark the 20th anniversary milestone, Hallertau is unleashing 20 days of giveaways and daily 20-minute flash beer sales. Until 20 July, daily prize drops will land on social media and include one year of burger vouchers, a Hallertau Funkonnay magnum and a 20 litre keg of the winner’s choice, pints and poppers for 20 people, meals at Onslow, Peaches Hot Chicken, Takapuna Surf Club and even a Park Hyatt overnight stay.
Hallertau has also brought back its original heroic brews, Stuntman, Porter Noir and Maximus, for a limited anniversary run. The beers are bold, nostalgic, and still know how to party.
And because Hallertau has always been about good taste beyond the taps, they’ve teamed up with long-time creative collaborator Otis Frizzell, who’s designed a limited-edition 20th anniversary T-shirt that’s as collectable as it is cool.
“We feel incredibly lucky to be celebrating twenty years with our collaborators and community. It hasn’t been an easy time for hospitality, and we’ve seen some great places close their doors recently. We couldn’t be more pleased to have had the privilege of serving up pints, poppers and primo times to the good people of Auckland for two decades, and that’s all thanks to our amazing community,” said Hayley Plowman.
“July is packed with giveaways, flash sales, limited-edition beers, DJ sets and proper family fun, we’re throwing everything at it to say thank you. Come for a cheers, stay for the next 20.”
