Howard Schultz, former CEO of Starbucks could be running for president in 2020. In a CNN report, a person close to Schultz’s advisers said they “are exploring a possible independent bid for the presidency in 2020.”
Schultz stepped down from Starbucks last year after more than 40 years with the company. In an interview with the New York Times, he said, “I want to be truthful with you without creating more speculative headlines. For some time now, I have been deeply concerned about our country—the growing division at home and our standing world.” Schultz has strong democratic beliefs and is exploring the option of running as an independent candidate in the 2020 elections. In recent history, third party and independent candidates have failed to gain overwhelming support. If Schultz does decide to run, he could be looking at a difficult campaign.
