Extensive Damage for Hawke’s Bay Winery Restaurant

The Black Barn Vineyards restaurant was “extensively” damaged in a blaze at the Havelock North winery on Tuesday night.

Hawke's Bay assistant commander Bruce Botherway last night said the building was unoccupied when they first received reports of the fire about 9pm.

About seven fire trucks from Napier and Hastings Station, and Havelock North Fire Brigade, attended to the incident. Botherway said it was a “great effort” by those involved.

The fire was not being treated as suspicious and a fire investigator would continue their work in the morning.

Crews remained onsite overnight to continue dampening down any hotspots.
