USA | DoorDash has announced an expanded partnership with Coco Robotics, bringing sidewalk robot deliveries to DoorDash customers in Los Angeles and Chicago.
The move follows a successful pilot programme with Wolt, DoorDash’s international business, where Coco robots have been operating in Helsinki.
Eligible customers in Los Angeles and Chicago will now see Coco’s compact, emissions-free robots as a delivery option through the DoorDash app. Nearly 600 participating merchants are offering the service.
Over 100,000 deliveries were completed during the initial pilot phase. The expanded rollout is part of DoorDash’s strategy to build a more efficient, sustainable and scalable last-mile delivery system.
“Not every delivery needs a two-ton car just to deliver two chicken sandwiches,” said Harrison Shih, Senior Director of DoorDash Labs.
“We believe the future of delivery will be multi-modal, and we’re thrilled to partner with Coco to expand sidewalk robot deliveries that complement the Dasher network as we continue to enhance the DoorDash experience for customers and merchants.”
The partnership is aligned with DoorDash’s broader global delivery strategy. This approach integrates Dashers, drones and autonomous robots to improve service and reduce environmental impact.
Zach Rash, co-founder and CEO of Coco Robotics, said the collaboration marks an important step forward.
“We’re excited to expand our partnership with DoorDash, combining Coco’s AI robocourier platform with DoorDash's national scale and reach,” said Rash.
“This collaboration aims to reshape urban delivery in the U.S., starting with Los Angeles and Chicago, and to offer a reliable, sustainable and seamless experience.”
Local merchants are already seeing the benefits.
“Partnering with Coco and DoorDash has allowed us to consistently deliver fresh food to our customers on time,” said Eric Dela Cruz, owner of Main Chick Hot Chicken.
“We worked with Coco to establish a taxi line of robots, which has improved efficiency during our busiest hours and led to happier guests and stronger repeat business.”
Coco has been active in Los Angeles since 2020 and has since expanded to Chicago, Miami and Helsinki. The company operates a fleet of over 1,000 delivery robots. The DoorDash collaboration is part of the work led by DoorDash Labs, the company’s robotics and automation division. It is also developing drone deliveries through a partnership with Wing.
