DoorDash Canada released its annual year-end food trend report highlighting the top Canadian food-ordering habits of 2023, from top midnight snack orders to the pickiest provinces. Using data from January 2023 to November 2023, DoorDash is providing insight into the top ordered items of 2023 and the quirkiest ordering habits of Canadians to come out this year, regionally and nationally.
“This year, we saw Canadians fully embrace the wide variety of options available for delivery on DoorDash,” said Shilpa Arora, General Manager at DoorDash Canada.
“From restaurants, to beauty products, to wine and spirits, to grocery, Canadians are choosing the convenience of DoorDash while supporting restaurants and businesses in their communities. We’re thrilled to share the interesting finds revealed by Canadians’ ordering habits. It might even change the way you look at online ordering!”
Whether it was ordered from a favourite local restaurant or groceries, DoorDash has highlighted some of the biggest delivery moments over the past year.
The most expensive order in 2023 was $3,335 in Markham, Ontario, including more than 30 different beauty products ranging from hair and makeup products, to beauty tools. The shortest delivery distance was only 120 metres away, which is still 20 metres higher than Niagara Falls! With three of these orders happening in Toronto, Ottawa and Thunder Bay, we can tell that Ontarians love convenience. Bananas, tomatoes and eggs top the list of grocery items ordered across Canada, followed by strawberries. Canadians have been taking full advantage of DoorDash’s advanced ordering feature, with Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary topping the charts for highest volume of users. Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal entered the most special instructions on their orders this year, with Torontonians accounting for over 21 percent of special requests. Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary residents stayed energized this year with the most coffee deliveries. Vancouver showed they love their coffee by ordering more than 160,000 coffees on DoorDash in 2023, and Toronto followed closely behind with more than 108,000 orders.
