COUNCILLOR SUPPORTING DOG DINING

Auckland councillor Cathy Casey is leading the charge to make Auckland a dog-friendly city, starting with a push for dog-friendly restaurants and cafés.

“A big factor of what makes a dog-friendly city is being able to take your dogs out to places where you go, so I’m on the hunt for dog-friendly eating spots,” said Casey.

Dog-friendly dining has seen a surge of popularity recently, with pages such as Dogs Welcome NZ publishing lists of restaurants and cafés that accept canine guests.

Under the Food Act 2014, registered businesses can allow dogs in dining areas at their own discretion, provided that any risk to food safety is managed and any food on display is protected from contamination.
