Ten years ago, when Cossiga started planning how to best expand its food display business internationally, it quickly became apparent that there was one key element to unlock true global success: to be fully in control of the supply and value chain. Whilst their design and distribution were already embedded as part of their success, manufacturing was outsourced. Having their own manufacturing plant would allow them not only to offer world-class quality displays at a more competitive price yet also to improve their efficiency and speed to deliver to each individual market.
In March 2017, after 10-year learning curve in the Chinese market, Cossiga achieved their goal and proudly opened Foshan Cossiga Foodservice Equipment Ltd, their own brand-new manufacturing facility, in Foshan, China.
The ceremonial opening was a vibrant celebration, in authentic Chinese style with live music, acrobatic dancing dragons and fireworks. With all the Cossiga New Zealand-based and Chinese directors and staff present, the event was also attended by special guests such as several local Chinese authorities, a select group of suppliers and customers including Esquires (Cossiga’s foundation client in China) and New Zealand Government representatives Rachael Maidment (NZ Ambassador in China), Fiona Acheson and Veronica Chan (Trade Commissioner and Business Development Manager respectively from New Zealand Trade & Enterprise).
Cossiga’s smart-looking new facility is "a serious little plant where big things happen", according to Managing Director Tim Rillstone. Designed around a Lean Manufacturing philosophy, using high-end components and following Kanban practices, this outstanding Cossiga plant can now cater the world with what they are well-renowned for: one of the most stylish, hard-working, robust and great-value food display cabinets in the industry.
Without doubt, being in control of their own destiny will supercharge Cossiga’s growth in existing and new markets (such as UK, where they just welcomed to their portfolio one of UK’s largest cafe operations) and will provide the company with the perfect platform to continue on its journey to become a truly global brand.
