Bendigo Wine Cellar Opens

Bendigo Wine Cellar

Designed to feel like guests have been transported to a secluded spot in the hills, the new Bendigo Wine Cellar is the latest spot to open in the Central Otago region, welcoming customers for those chilly afternoons best spent with a warming glass of red in hand.

With so many vineyards gracing the Central Otago high country, it felt natural to open a space in that very region where the wines can be celebrated and enjoyed.

Situated in the heart of the newly redeveloped Tarras Village, the gateway to Central Otago and the main thoroughfare to Wanaka and Queenstown, the new Bendigo Wine Cellar has an old-world feel. The design took inspiration from Tuscany, with a soft palette of blush irregular tiles, taupe-painted rough-cast walls, and wood furnishings. Perriam sheepskin rugs add a touch of Central Otago comfort, and the schist displayed outside is a clear nod to the surrounding landscape and local history of mining.

Founders Christina and Callum Grant of Bendigo Station are also behind luxury knitwear brand Perriam, the Tarras Village Store and the Merino Shop, which was handed down by Christina’s parents. Hoping to continue their legacy and fulfil the vision of Tarras being a must-visit destination, Christina and Callum are committed to honouring the unique heritage of the region and village, whilst introducing a contemporary hospitality experience.

The wine list was inspired by the vineyards that grace the hills of Bendigo Station, and with the option of tasting or taking home, the Cellar presents a range of the best wines in the region. From the Bendigo Station vineyard, which is owned by the Perriam family, is a Pinot Noir and a Pinot Gris. Quartz Reef wines available will include their renowned Methode Traditionelle in both Brut and Rose, and last but not least there will be a 2022 Chardonnay, 2021 Pinot Noir, 2023 Pinot Rose and 2023 Sauvignon Blanc from Peregrine wines.

Alongside the wine selection there is a range of local craft beers from Rhyme and Reason, Ground Up and B Effect.

The new opening is part of further development for Tarras Village, and hopes to offer tasting bites and food later in the year. Alongside the recently renovated Tarras Village Store & Country Cafe, there are also plans for an outdoor laneway filled with seating options for Summer.
