Melbourne’s Attica has been named the Restaurant of the Year in Australia in the Gourmet Traveller National Restaurant Awards. Led by New Zealand-born Ben Shewry, the judges said that the restaurant had become notably bolder since Shewry’s taking over years prior to the awards.

While Attica took out the top overall spot, Paul Carmichael of Momofuku Siobo in Sydney won Chef of the Year, while Kylie Kwong, with her restaurant Billy Kwong, won Outstanding Contribution to Hospitality. Carmichael had successfully led his restaurant to victory in 2017, winning Restaurant of the Year, while Kwong was praised for establishing a new model for Australian cuisine. Melbourne’s Di Stasio Città was awarded both New Restaurant of the Year and Best Design.
