Australian Passion for Rick Stein

Rick Stein

Internationally acclaimed Chef Rick Stein has fallen in love with Australia, following the opening of a new restaurant and tv series.

Known for his restaurants around the world, it seems that Rick Stein has directed his focus towards Australia, specifically the beaches of New South Wales.

Filmed entirely in NSW across six one-hour episodes, Rick Stein’s Australia follows the world-renowned chef as he retraces his early travels across the state.

Rick Stein’s Australia showcases six regions across NSW and explores how place, migration and history shape the way people cook and eat. Along the way, Stein meets cooks, producers, artists and First Nations custodians, learning from those whose connection to land and sea runs deep.

The journey includes bustling cities, regional towns, inland plains and coastal waters, with a particular focus on seafood, simple cooking and food rooted in everyday life rather than restaurant trends.

“Most people know me as a British chef, but I have been coming to Australia for over 60 years," he said.

"After my 5000km journey through NSW, I realised how much my love, appreciation and knowledge of food has changed over these years and I think it all kicked off with my early visit to NSW. It really is my home away from home.”

This follows the opening of his latest restaurant down under, Rick Stein at Coogee Beach. Stein described Coogee Beach as yet another stunning coastal location for his Australian portfolio. He said there was an abundance of top-quality seafood in Australia, and he intended to champion local, seasonal produce with the best benefit of accessing the biggest fish market in the southern hemisphere.

On the menu, customers can look forward to mahi mahi and blue swimmer crab from Nelson Bay, Stockton pipis from Port Stephens and line-caught mackerel from Ulladulla.

“Perched by the sea and full of the laid-back charm we’ve come to love so much here. It’s especially meaningful for me as my wife, Sarah, grew up in Sydney, so opening a restaurant in her hometown makes this venture all the more special for us both,” said Stein.

Occupying a stunning beachfront location, the new restaurant will be inspired by Stein’s lifelong love of the ocean and the fresh, unfussy elegance of his kitchens. Rick Stein at Coogee Beach will offer refined beachside dining that showcases the best Australian regional and local produce across an array of experiences from casual to upmarket.
