Uber Eats trials walking delivery

Uber Eats has started trialling ‘walking deliveries’ in the Auckland CBD in an attempt to decrease delivery time by removing the need for parking.

Traffic congestion can make it difficult for deliveries to arrive in a timely manner, meaning that food doesn’t arrive in the best possible condition.

“Finding a park, picking up an order, and driving to another location in less than 15 minutes once an order is ready becomes unrealistic at peak times,” said Uber Eats country manager Andy Bowie. “[These delays] cause frustration for both restaurant-partners and eaters.”

Walking delivery is not yet available for Uber Eats partners, and has only been in the trial phase for one week. It is not an entirely novel concept – walking delivery already exists in Mexico City, New York and Hong Kong.
