The Terrace, Christchurch’s premier hospitality strip has a new addition, Chiwahwah. The Mexican themed restaurant is owned by restauranteur Tony Astle and long-term hotelier Ian McKenzie. After nearly a year of delays, it joins an impressive lineup of restaurants that have been opening since summer of last year.

Astle originally planned to open Chiwahwah earlier last year, but his business troubles with other restaurants meant that he was almost one million dollars in debt. Following the liquidations with his other companies late last year, he secured a business partnership with McKenzie who has been involved in the Christchurch bar and hotel sector for several decades.

Both men are excited at the prospects and hope Chiwahwah can bring continued success to the area.
