Stats New Zealand has said that avocados are at their lowest prices since February of 2017. Considering May saw the fruit’s record high price, it is refreshing to see the popular item at more affordable levels.
October saw a general drop in the prices of fruit and vegetables, decreasing 4.7 percent overall.
On the contrary, food prices have increased by 2.5 percent in the last year, primarily driven by the increase in restaurant pricing, ready-to-eat foods, and grocery prices.
A standout food that remains an outlier is pork-related items. Since the outbreak of African swine fever in China, bacon prices have increased 24 percent compared to last year, and ham prices have increased 22 percent since last October.
