THROUGH FIRE AND FLAMES

Whanganui’s Thai Villa is set to open following a run of bad luck. The building has been through it all, damaged by both flooding in 2015 and fire when the Thain building next door went up in ablaze.

Following the fire, the building was deemed a ‘dangerous building’ by the Whanganui District Council, resulting in the restaurant being out of bounds for the last three months. Towards the end of September, the owners of the restaurant were allowed back into the building to assess the damage. The hope is that the restaurant will undergo the necessary repairs, and be good to go within the next couple of weeks.
